A nice early example of American stoneware. This piece is either NY or PA origin and is only marked with an incised 2 for the size. It has strap handles applied on the sides that are embellished with cobalt . The central design is just a spray of cobalt slip. There are some minor chips around the top, and two discolored hairlines on the backside. Crock is very tight and hairline do not extend to the inside. Measures 10-½" high and 8-½" wide at the mouth.
