Turned maple sugar bucket/storage jar made in the Cascade Valley near Painesville, Ohio. The Brown and Paese family settled in this area and began turning the native silver maple trees into hardwood storage containers. This canister has great patina, and has the crown finial design. It has some loss to the top inner lip approximately half way around the inside lid. It also has a small shrinkage crack along the lower portion of the piece. This is common on these pieces the larger they got, as the wood was never properly cured and continued to dry after they were turned. This one measures 5" tall and wide.
